RAP & Coloradans for Safe Communities Defeat Car Impound Initiative
After many long months of phone calls and door knocking, RAP and Coloradans for Safe Communities defeated ballot initiative 300. Initiative 300 would have forced police officers to impound the vehicles of people who didn’t have their driver’s licenses or registration; even they were just forgotten at home. These drivers would have had to pay $2,700 to get their car out of impound. This initiative was opposed by faith, labor and community groups as well as Rights for All People, Coloradans for Safe Communities, the Denver City Council and Mayor John Hickenlooper.
