Join Rights for All People (RAP) To Stop “Secure Communities” now!

This is an urgent call to action regarding a program called “Secure Communities” which Governor Bill Ritter wants to implement soon. RAP, along with many other Colorado organizations are on a campaign to STOP “Secure Communities” now, because in reality it is not safe at all...
What is "Secure Communities?"
• This program will send the fingerprints of anyone arrested and booked in Colorado for anything to Immigration.
• This includes the wrongly accused and innocent victims of domestic violence, citizens and noncitizens alike.
Why is “Secure Communities” Dangerous?
• It is a dangerous collaboration between Immigration and the State of Colorado which will hurt community policing.
o More fear and mistrust of local police means less safe neighborhoods.
o Witnesses and victims of crime could be afraid to cooperate with police.
• We do not know enough information about the program’s implementation, its data collection, how it will be funded, or what negative effects it could have.
• The program may allow for racial profiling and unjust arrests regardless of whether a person is convicted or not.
TAKE TWO ACTIONS this week with hundreds of others & SAY NO TO “SECURE COMMUNITIES” NOW!
• Call Governor Ritter now at (303) 866-2471 and tell him NO to “Secure Communities” because it will hurt us all.
• Come to RAP’s Membership Meeting this Saturday, July 24 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Library, 9898 E. Colfax Ave. Aurora, CO 80010 to learn more about this campaign and other RAP activities to get involved in.
Join us and come together to hold Governor Ritter accountable and stop “Secure Communities!” Take action on behalf of RAP and our entire community!
WEEK OF ACTION: CALL OBAMA TODAY!
President Obama promised to enact comprehensive immigration reform during his first year in office. Two years later our families continue to suffer from increased deportations and collaborations between immigration and local law enforcement under the Obama administration. Colorado Senators Bennet and Udall have written Obama to let him know that Colorado as a state is ready to enact Comprehensive immigration reform in 2010! Now we need your help to call Obama and let him know that you expect him to take leadership and pass immigration reform this year!
MAY 1st ACTION FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM!
RAP celebrates after marching in the May 1st March for Immigration Reform in Denver! More than 10,000 took to the streets of Denver in an action planned by RAP, RIFA, CIRC, MOP, SEIU local 105, and Mi Familia Vota. The march sent a strong message to President Obama and our Colorado delegation that Colorado is ready for immigration reform in 2010!
RAP OUTRAGED BY PASSING OF ARIZONA'S SB 1070!
Today Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law a dangerous bill that requires police officers to arrest and detain anyone who can not prove their legal status. The law makes it a crime to be undocumented in the state of Arizona. RAP has long fought such cooperation between local police and immigration as it spreads fear and mistrust of police in the community, decreases public safety, and encourages racial profiling.
"This law is unconstitutional and will lead to nothing but fear and rampant racial profiling. How can an officer tell if someone is undocumented just by looking at them? This law is irrational must be stopped." said Judith Marquez, Civic Engagement Organizer for Rights for All People.
"Today we are disgusted and outraged by the passing of this bill which looks to criminalize innocent people and terrorize our community." said Emily Parkey Lead Organizer, Rights for All People. "Now more than ever we must take to the streets and fight for fair and humane immigration reform that provides our neighbors, family members, and friends with a pathway to citizenship and an end to harrassment and terror. I hope to see everyone in Denver out at the May 1st rally at Sunken Gardens at 11th and Speer to tell our Senators that we won't rest until we have immigration reform in 2010."
Four Year Old Speaks Out For Immigration Reform
Yesterday Roberto "Gallo" Vizguerra, 4 years old, became the youngest RAP member to speak out publicly for immigration reform saying, " I want the President to keep my family and my people together" at a press conference against the passing of Arizona's SB 1070 which looks to criminalize immigrants for simply being present in the state of Arizona. Every day that we don't have an immigration reform - more and more families like Gallo's suffer from increased raids and deportations. Today Senator Michael Bennet signed a letter to President Obama indicating his readiness to pass immigration reform in 2010. Now we need Senator Udall to take the same action. Call him today at 303-650-7820.

1,000 CHRISTMAS CARDS FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM
On Tuesday December, 22nd, Rights for All People handed in 1,000 Christmas Cards in favor of a just and humane immigration reform to Congressman Ed Perlmutter's office. The cards were collected in Perlmutter's district by RAP leaders in addition to RAP's Reform Immigration for America Team Aurora partners MOP, ICC, and Comunidad de Liberacion. RAP thanked Congressman Perlmutter for signing on to Luis Gutierrez's comprehensive immigration reform bill, and let the Congressman know that there is a great deal of support for immigration reform in his district.
Rights for All People (RAP) works to organize with immigrants and their allies in Denver and Aurora to bring immigrant voices and humane policies to the struggle for justice, dignity and human rights for everyone in Colorado.
